The second patients contact is connected to the measurement circuit only via the current control transistor, such that the said second patients contact is electrically isolated from the measurement circuit. The first patients contact is the anode, and the second is the cathode. The patients skin is then contacted with the anode and cathode to form a connection between the anode and the cathode. The anode voltage is applied to the anode. A control signal is applied to the transistor connected to the cathode. The voltage across the transistor is measured by means of a measuring circuit designed to control the power at the anode. The cathode is isolated from the indicated voltage measurement by a transistor. The voltage across the transistor is compared to the threshold voltage.
