PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reel body having a weight saved without deteriorating the design in a rear part thereof.SOLUTION: A reel body 2 is one for a spinning reel capable of letting off a fishing line forward, and includes a housing 21, a lid member 22 and a guard member 23. The housing 21 includes: a housing space 21a having a first side face opened； a side wall 21b for defining the second side face belonging to the housing space 21a and opposing to the first side face； and a rear wall 21c for defining the rear face of the housing space 21a. A projection piece 21d or the back portion of the side wall 21b extends backward from the rear wall 21c. The cover member 22 is so mounted on the housing 21 as to clog the opening of the housing space 21a.
