PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: a method for detecting failure of a flexible diaphragm that is capable of detecting beforehand presence or absence of failure of a flexible diaphragm before using it in a pressure sensor for measuring pressure in an extracorporeal circulation circuit without contact with air and a pressure sensor having a means to detect failure of a flexible diaphragm and for measuring pressure in an extracorporeal circulation circuit without contact with air.
SOLUTION: In the method for detecting failure of a flexible diaphragm 20 wherein there are an air chamber 30 and a liquid chamber 10 that are separated by the flexible diaphragm deformable corresponding to a pressure differential between the air chamber 30 and the liquid chamber 10, the pressure in the air chamber 30 and the liquid chamber 10 is set to atmospheric pressure and then the pressure in the liquid room 10 is changed. Thus, failure of the flexible diaphragm 20 is detected by measuring and comparing the pressure in the air room 30 corresponding to the pressure in the liquid room 10. The pressure sensor 1 is used for the method for detecting failure of the flexible diaphragm.
