Cellulosic fibrous materials are described which are impregnated with a bioflavonoid composition, the bioflavonoid content of the composition comprising at least naringin and neohesperidin. The use of such impregnated materials is also described, for example as paper towels and cardboard, as well as the process for impregnating the materials. Preferably, the combined naringin and neohesperidin content is 50 - 80 % of the total bioflavonoid content. Preferably neoeriocitrin, isonaringin, hesperidin, neodiosmin, naringenin, poncirin and/or rhiofolin are also present in the composition. The used compositions were extracted from bitter orange / sour orange extract (tradenames: HPLC 45 (TM) and CITROX BC (TM)). The process includes immersing or spraying the cellulosic fibrous material with the bioflavonoid composition followed by drying the material, preferably by air drying or mechanical drying. Activity against staphylococcus aureus, Salmonella, Pseudomonas aeroginosa, Esherichia coli, MRSA, Clostridium difficile, Bacillus subtilis and H. Pylori was tested.
