PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a polymer liquid crystal display capable obtaining quality assurance even when used in a severely cold place.SOLUTION: A polymer liquid crystal display element 20 includes a pair of substrates 1 and 2 between which polymer liquid crystal 5 is encapsulated. An insulator film 21 is provided on the internal surface of any one of the pair of substrates 1 and 2 or both the substrates, that are outside of a parting frame M. A cell gap amount outside of the parting frame M is made smaller than the cell gap amount inside of the parting frame. The cell gap amount outside of the parting frame is suppressed to be less than or equal to 6 μm.
