A system for scanning anatomical structures and for displaying the scanning result is made available, wherein the system has the following: an intra-oral scanner (10), which records an image of the anatomical structures intra-orally, an extra-oral detection unit (20), which detects a spatial position of the intra-oral scanner (10) relative to an observer or to a person carrying out the scanning, and a computing unit (30) which, during the scanning procedure, places the scanner (10) in communication with a screen (40) and with the detection unit (20) and generates a scanning result based on the intra-orally recorded image of the anatomical structures and the detected spatial position of the intra-oral scanner (10) relative to the observer, and which, during pauses in the scanning procedure, estimates the position, orientation and scaling of the anatomical structures and generates an image, corresponding to the estimation, of the anatomical structures as a scanning result, wherein the screen (40) displays the scanning result generated by the computing unit (30).
