Die Erfindung betrifft die Verwendung von Fettalkoholen mit 10 bis 14 Kohlenstoffatomen, die mit 8 bis 12 Mol Ethylenoxid ethoxyliert sind, zur Reduzierung der Hautreizung durch Zusammensetzungen, enthaltend mindestens eine schwefelhaltige, keratinreduzierende Substanz. Weiterhin werden Mittel zur dauerhaften Verformung von Keratinfasern, insbesondere von menschlichen Haaren, beschrieben, welche bei konstantem pH-Wert neben mindestens einer schwefelhaltigen, keratinreduzierenden Substanz mindestens eine Verbindung enthalten, die ausgewählt wird aus mit 8 bis 12 Mol Ethylenoxid ethoxylierten Fettalkoholen mit 10 bis 14 Kohlenstoffatomen.
