The sympathetic nerve extends through the intima around the renal arteries and is important for the control of systemic hypertension. The hyperactivity of these nerves can cause renal hypertension, which is prevalent in 30-40% of the adult population. Hypertension can be treated with neurotransmitters (such as angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors, angiotensin II inhibitors, or aldosterone receptor blockers) but does require reaching a strict dosage regimen and often does not reach the target blood pressure threshold that reduces the risk of major cardiovascular disease . Here we present a minimally invasive solution to reduce the activity of sympathetic nerves around the renal arteries by local delivery of the neurotoxin or neuro-blocker into the outer membrane.
