A hand-held, electrically powered and controlled surgical stapler/cutter (1), comprising a handle (10) shaped to fit in one hand of a user and containing therein a selectively actuated, self-contained electric power supply (600) having at least one battery cell； at least part of an anvil control assembly (100)； and at least part of an electrically-powered stapler/cutter control assembly (200) electrically connected to said power supply (600)； a surgical end effector (60) connected to said handle (10) and operatively connected to each of said anvil control assembly (100) and said stapler/cutter control assembly (200), said stapler/cutter control assembly (200) stapling and cutting tissue disposed at said surgical end effector (60) when powered by said power supply (600).
