Extract from Semen Cassiae for lowering intraocular pressure is provided. In experiments it is found that extract from Semen Cassiae can improve the antioxidant ability and lower the intraocular pressure of the aqueous humor inside the eyes of a mouse with glaucoma (DBA/2J) and other beneficial effects to the eyes when the mouse is treated with the extract. It is further found that liver and kidneys of the mouse have no pathologic changes. lt is therefore concluded that extract from Semen Cassiae can lower intraocular pressure and have safe medical effects to a patient with glaucoma.本發明係有關一種具有降眼壓效果之決明子組成物,於動物實驗中發現決明子萃取物可有效降低遺傳性青光眼小鼠(DBA/2J)的眼壓與增強房水液中抗氧化能力之效果。此外,該實驗動物之肝臟及腎臟病理組織切片並無明顯異常,足見決明子萃取物是具安全性且確有降眼壓與延緩青光眼病程發展的功效。
