An irradiation method and system for irradiating a target volume, the method comprising: providing thermal neutron absorbing nuclides (such as in the form of a high neutron cross-section agent) at the target volume； and producing neutrons by irradiating nuclei in or adjacent to the target volume with a beam of particles consisting of any one or more of protons, deuterons, tritons and heavy ions, thereby prompting production of the neutrons through non-elastic collisions between the atoms in the path of the beam (including the target) and the particles. The neutron absorbing nuclides absorb neutrons produced in the non-elastic collisions, thereby producing capture products or fragments that irradiate the target volume.La présente invention concerne un procédé et un système d'irradiation pour irradier un volume cible, le procédé consistant à : se munir de nucléides absorbant les neutrons thermiques (tels que sous la forme d'un agent de section transversale à teneur élevée en neutrons) au niveau du volume cible ； et produire des neutrons par irradiation de noyaux dans le volume cible ou à proximité avec un faisceau de particules constitué d'un ou de plusieurs des membres du groupe constitué par les protons, les deutérons, les tritons et les ions lourds, ce qui permet d'entraîner la production des neutrons par des collisions non élastiques entre les atomes dans le trajet du faisceau (y compris la cible) et les particules. Les nucléides absorbant les neutrons absorbent les neutrons produits dans les collisions non élastiques, produisant ainsi des produits de capture ou des fragments qui irradient le volume cible.
