A luxating tool having a tapering blade 70 with at least one active surface 72 and a cutting tip 71. At least one part 73 projects from the plane of the active surface, but is not adjacent to the cutting tip. Preferably, the projecting part is rigid, it may also be removably attached. The part or parts that project from the active surface may be adjacent to the side edge of the active surface, which may comprise two planes, at least one of which may be curved. The cutting edge may be curved, crenelated, undulating, scalloped, straight or lobulated and may incorporate at least one tine. The tool may incorporate at least one tooth or root gripping part and may have at least two tapering blades that may be in a tweezer or scissor-like arrangement, preferably detachably connected in such an arrangement.
