An orifice in a seal member (201) defines a central 5 longitudinal axis in general alignment with the cannula assembly (100). The seal member (201) includes an elastic member (210) for engaging the surgical object about the orifice and forming a fluid-tight interface. A fiber loop (220) is at least partially embedded in the elastic member (210) and serves to compress central portions of the elastic member (210) around the instrument. The fiber loop (220) may form a loop around the orifice and may 1o cooperate with other fiber loops (220) similarly embedded in the seal (201).1/4 101 148 142 136 132 130>; 128 u130 126 122 124V 112-1 FIG. 1
