The present invention relates to a novel use of a Polygonum aviculare extract, and relates to a pharmaceutical composition for preventing or treating renal diseases containing the Polygonum aviculare extract as an active component. Specifically, the present invention relates to the Polygonum aviculare extract for preventing or treating renal diseases which has an effect of inhibits the proliferation of mesangial cells generated due to diabetic renal diseases and an effect of inhibiting nephritis and fibrosis at the same time.본 발명은 편축(鞭蹴) 추출물의 신규한 용도에 관한 것으로, 편축 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 신장질환의 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물에 관한 것이다. 구체적으로 당뇨병성 신장질환으로 인해 발생되는 메산지움 세포의 증식을 억제하고, 신장염 및 섬유화를 억제하는 효과를 동시에 갖는 편축 추출물을 유효성분으로 포함하는 신장질환의 예방 또는 치료용 약학 조성물에 관한 것이다.
