Disclosed is a method for manufacturing a lithium-silicate glass-ceramic comprising a pentavalent metal oxide, selected from Nb2O5, Ta2O5 and mixtures thereof, and from 11.0 to 21.0 wt % Li2O, and including from 0 to less than 2.0 wt % K2O, in which (a) the initial glass comprising glass-ceramic components is subjected to thermal treatment at a temperature of 480–500 °C for a period of 10 minutes to 120 minutes to form a glass with germs that are suitable for forming lithium disilicate crystals, and (b) glass with germs is subjected to heat treatment at a temperature of 650–750 °C for a period of 10 minutes to 120 minutes to form a glass-ceramic with lithium disilicate as the main crystalline phase.
