The cage includes one or more contact member arranged around the perimeter of the rotary means creating a gap between the surface of the rotary means and the or each contact member. An entry point in the cage allows nuts to be introduced into the gap and an exit point in the cage allows nuts to exit. In use, the rotary means is caused to rotate and nuts introduced into the gap and as the nuts move around the rotary means they move between the surface and the or each contact member.
