Disclosed is a method for determining a change in treatment, to be performed by a device for treating sleep-disordered breathing. The method includes determining a first measure of a degree of partial obstruction from a measure of respiratory flow and determining a second measure of a respiratory parameter from the measure of respiratory flow. The second measure of partial obstruction is either a breath duty cycle measure or a ventilation measure based on a tidal volume calculation. The method also includes adjusting the first measure with the second measure to qualify the degree of partial obstruction by the respiratory parameter and determinng a change in treatment based on the qualified degree of partial obstruction.
