The use of canangliflozin and derivatives thereof in the treatment and prevention of cancer is disclosed. Said compounds have been previously determined to be selective sodium glucose transporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors useful in the treatment of diabetes with effects that are similar to metformin. Canagliflozin has now been determined to activate AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) and inhibit the growth of a range of cancers. Further to this, use of canagliflozin in combination with other chemotherapeutics has now been determined to give rise to increased anti-cancer activity.La présente invention concerne lutilisation de canangliflozine et de ses dérivés dans le traitement et la prévention du cancer. Il a été établi précédemment que lesdits composés sont des inhibiteurs sélectifs du transporteur 2 de glucose et de sodium (SGLT2) utiles dans le traitement du diabète ayant des effets qui sont similaires à ceux de la metformine. Il a été établi aujourdhui que la canagliflozine active la protéine kinase activée par lAMP (AMPK) et inhibe la croissance dune gamme de cancers. En outre, il a été établi aujourdhui que lutilisation de canagliflozine en association avec dautres médicaments chimiothérapeutiques déclenche une activité anti-cancéreuse accrue.
