An irradiation device for photodynamically diagnosing or treating a surface includes a plurality of panels. The illuminator further includes a plurality of light sources, each mounted on one of the plurality of panels. The plurality of light sources are configured to illuminate the surface with visible light of substantially uniform intensity. The irradiation device also includes a heat source configured to radiate heat to the patient. The heat accelerates the formation of the photoactivator, thereby reducing the time required to complete the photodynamic therapy.
