A method for treating a condition in a patient, wherein the condition is selected from the group consisting of Alzheimers disease, Parkinsons disease, amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, stroke and peripheral neuropathy. The method consists of administering to the patient a pharmaceutically effective amount of a pharmaceutical composition comprising the MANF2 polypeptide of SEQ ID NO:2 or a functional fragment thereof.
