Disclosed is an apparatus for securing a horse in a vehicle, such as a horsebox, comprising a harness 305 configured to fit around a chest region of a horse 306, and a securing element 303 that is fixable to the vehicle, wherein the harness and the securing element are releasably attachable. The apparatus may have a girth strap, and a neck strap, each of which may be adjustable. There may be a quick release buckle and adjuster on the securing element. The apparatus may comprise automotive seatbelt webbing. The securing element may comprise a loop which allows the fixing point 304 to the vehicle to be moveable. Also disclosed is a method of using said apparatus. The invention is designed to allow the horse to be transported with improved safety and reduced risk of becoming stuck over a breast bar 302, to prevent injury.
