An endoscope includes an elongated tube (16), having a head assembly (16a, 50, 60), for entry in a body cavity. A first surface (33, 53, 63) is disposed at a distal end of the head assembly in an axial direction of the elongated tube. Plural lighting window areas (29a, 29b) are formed in the first surface, for applying light to an object. An imaging window area (28) is formed in the first surface, for receiving object light from the object. An end nozzle device (22) is disposed on the head assembly, for washing the imaging window area by blowing washing fluid thereto. A distal projection (42, 52, 62) is disposed to project from the first surface in the axial direction, for receiving the washing fluid ejected from the end nozzle device toward the imaging window area. Furthermore, a recess (41a, 41b, 51, 61) is formed in the first surface to retreat in the axial direction, and disposed in a periphery of the lighting window areas.
