The laser light source transmits laser light through the optical fiber to the tip of an interventional device such as a needle. The laser light is absorbed at the distal tip of the instrument and produces a photoacoustic signal. The laser light source is configured to receive a trigger signal from an ultrasonic machine when a laser pulse is to be generated. When the optical connector is connected to the laser light source to automatically start the needle tip (NTV) visualization mode, the light source sends a signal to the ultrasonic machine.
