A pumpless wearable blood pressure monitor includes first 30 and second 40 fluid strips on a wearable element, such as an arm or wrist strap, for contacting a wearer. The user may be prompted to exert force so that the parallel fluid strips are pressed across the same blood vessel, the first being closer to the heart. Control module 20 processes the difference between detected pressures, the second being e.g. 40% higher indicating a sharp rise in blood pressure corresponding to systolic pressure. Diastolic pressure may similarly be measured. The fluid strips may contain air or liquid and be of soft tubing e.g. silicone materials, with diameter 5-6mm. Branch tubes 32, 42 may allow fluidic communication with tubular members 24, 26 of the control module, located within the bottom 151 and side wall 152 of the device and housing pressure sensing elements and possibly a display and/or wireless transmission device.
