An endoscope 1 according to the present invention comprises an insertion portion 2, an operation portion 3, an image pickup device 17 provided in the operation portion 3, an image display device 4 connected to the operation portion 3 and provided with a monitor portion 21, an image processing portion such as an image pickup device control circuit 33 processing an image pickup signal of a portion to be inspected picked up by the image pickup device 17, a cylindrical rotating shaft 55 formed by an electromagnetic wave shielding member such as metal, slidably engaged with the operation portion, for rotatably connecting the operation portion 3 and the image display device 4 to each other, and an image pickup cable 58 inserted through the rotating shaft 55 and electrically connecting the image pickup device control circuit 33 and the image pickup device 17 to each other.
