A granular soil-applied insecticide composition comprising 6-12 wt% insecticide, 7-18 wt% of a mixture of aromatic hydrocarbons and the remainder comprising a granular support. The composition may optionally further comprise up to 5 wt% of a surfactant system. The weight ratio of [insecticide, aromatic hydrocarbons and surfactant combined] : [granular support] is in the range 1.7:10 to 4:10, and the weight ratio of [insecticide] : [insecticide, aromatic hydrocarbons and surfactant combined] is in the range 3.5:10 to 5.2:10. Preferably the insecticide is a pyrethroid such as tefluthrin and the granular support is a clay such as montmorillonite. Also claimed is a method of controlling insects comprising applying the granular insecticide composition to the locus of said insects, in particular to the soil for the growth of plants susceptible to attack by insects.
