Disclosed is an antenna (20) for use in a radio frequency identification (RFID) system. The antenna (20) includes at least one loop with a first portion (22) and a second portion (22&rsquo) which lie substantially on the same plane. Each portion is in a shape having opposing sections in two perpendicular directions. The centre of the first portion (22) is offset in two perpendicular directions from the centre of the second portion (22&rsquo). A RFID system includes at least one antenna (20) substantially as described above is also disclosed.
