A syringe is coupled to a biopsy needle through a coupling structure that includes a motor-driven element such as a gear to rotate the needle. The needle can have a sharp beveled tip which, in cooperation with rotation of the needle, efficiently harvests tissue in vivo to reduce the need for multiple “sticks” and concomitant patient discomfort and increased time and cost.
