FIELD: agriculture.SUBSTANCE: method is proposed for selection of seeds of grain and leguminous crops for sowing, which consists in placing seeds in a vessel with sand, watering of seeds, their sprouting, determination and comparison of parameter characterizing sowing quality of seeds. Containers with seeds are placed in a thermostat at temperature of 20–25 °C, after the beginning of the shoots, the containers are brought out to the light, in 6-7 days after sowing the germination capacity is evaluated as a percentage, then, the sprouted sprouts are kept for 2-3 more days, sprouts are cut, each sprout is weighed, their weight is compared to each other inside the tested batch separately, based on spread of green mass values of separate sprouts, a prediction on potential even development of plants of the given batch is made. Calculations are carried out using a standard deviation method. One compares the mass of sprouts of the test batch with the mass of sprouts of other batches and draws conclusions on the potential yield of all tested batches compared to each other.
