The sweeping shovel for sweeping loose material from a hard surface. The shovel has a head and a handle. The head is at least partially formed as a blade having a face and a foot which trails from the face. In one use the head rests on a hard surface supported by the trailing foot with the foot supporting the face at a predetermined angle to the hard surface. This allows the material to rise from the hard surface across the face, to be swept from the hard surface as the trailing foot travels on the hard surface. The head may include integral spaced reinforcing support struts which are connected to the foot. The handle may be detachable from the head. The foot may comprise teeth or grooves for moving leaves or grass.
