PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To suitably measure the intraocular pressure of a subjects eye, regarding a non-contact ultrasonic tonometer for ultrasonically measuring the intraocular pressure of a subjects eye without contact.
SOLUTION: The non-contact ultrasonic tonometer includes an ultrasonic probe having a transmitting and receiving unit for transmitting and receiving without contact an ultrasonic beam to and from a subjects eye cornea, and a computing unit for measuring the intraocular pressure of the subjects eye based on the characteristics of the corneal reflected wave received by the probe. The non-contact ultrasonic tonometer further includes a first detection means for detecting whether there is the eyelid and/or eyelash of the subjects eye in the propagation path of the ultrasonic beam based on an output signal from the probe and a second detection means having a light source for applying light to the subjects eye and a light receiving element for receiving the light emitted by the light source and reflected from the subjects eye, and optically detecting whether there is the eyelid and/or eyelash of the subjects eye in the propagation path of the ultrasonic beam based on an output signal from the light receiving element.
