A method, including advancing a guidewire having afirst diameter through a patient lumen, the guidewire beingtracked by an electromagnetic system and an impedancesystem. While advancing the guidewire, signals of bothsystems, that are generated in response to differingpositions of the guidewire in the lumen, are recorded. Themethod includes recording correspondences between thesignals at each of the differing positions. The method alsoincludes withdrawing the guidewire from the lumen, and thenadvancing through the lumen a second guidewire, having asecond diameter smaller than the first diameter, which istracked by the impedance system. While advancing thesecond guidewire, a signal of the impedance systemgenerated in response to advancement of the secondguidewire in the lumen is received. The method includesapplying the correspondences to the signal in order todetermine a position of the second guidewire in the lumen.
