A pet litter box includes a housing having a base portion, a grid portion, and a top portion. The base portion has a floor and a raised, peripheral ledge with a vertical wall and a horizontal wall. The pet litter box has a removable tray. The horizontal wall includes air vents. Each air vent has an upwardly extending hood having a rear wall, two oppositely disposed end walls which define an outwardly facing air outlet opening. Each side air outlet opening is in fluid communication with a bottom air inlet opening extending through the ledge horizontal wall. The air inlet opening is in fluid communication with ambient air external of the litter box.
