The present invention relates to a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment and/or prevention of diseases of the posterior segment, particularly the retinal and optic nerve pathologies. Dobesylic acid and/or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, or any such acid or ester of such a salt, is proposed for topical administration to the ocular surface.
