A device (150) for collecting and analyzing a quasi-periodic signal includes a SNR calculator (178) that computes the SNR of a returned signal (194). A signal analysis selector (184) selects between a first and a second signal analysis technique. A transmission power controller (180) compares the computed SNR with an optimal SNR range for the selected technique and modifies the transmission power (182) as a result of this comparison.
