The matrix has a disk shape, and a surface layer on one side of the disk has less than 20 percentage of the average pore density of the other sides of the disk. The matrix is hydrophilically coated. The coating comprises methacrylic acid units. The matrix primarily comprises poly alpha-hydroxycarboxylic acid. An independent claim is included for a method for producing a cell implant matrix.
