Methods and compositions for preventing and treating the damaged and/ordegenerating CNS experiencing lossor death of CNS cells. Various embodiments of the invention transport atherapeutically effective amount of, inter alia, at leastone therapeutic cell to the CNS by intranasal application to the upper-thirdof the nasal cavity, thereby bypassing the blood-brainbarrier. A pharmaceutical composition according to the invention may compriseat least one therapeutic cell, at least one delivery-enhancementagent, at least one antibiotic, at least one regulatory factor and/or at leastone immunosuppressive agent, wherein thecomposition is delivered to the upper-third of the nasal cavity. Thetherapeutic cells, once delivered to the CNS, migrate preferentiallyto the area of damage or degeneration or injury.
