An intramedullary injection device can accurately, quickly and safely introduce the desired fluid into the patient's bone marrow. In one embodiment, the intramedullary injection device has a housing, a container disposed within the housing, a hollow needle, and a valve. The intramedullary injection device further includes a release mechanism including a bone probe needle and a movable release member. In another embodiment, the intramedullary injection device has a depth limiter mechanism operable to limit the penetration depth of the needle relative to the bone surface.
