PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating pulmonary diseases using interferon.SOLUTION: A method of treating pulmonary diseases such as IPF (idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis) and asthma is provided, including administering an aerosolized interferon such as interferon α, interferon β or interferon γ. Further, pharmaceutical compositions of one or more aerosolized interferons are provided. One embodiment is a method for treating a pulmonary disease in a subject suffering from the pulmonary disease, the method comprising administering an aerosolized interferon in a therapeutically effective amount. In many embodiments, pulmonary diseases are obstructive pulmonary diseases.
