The endoscope herein described has a unique steering capability allowing thehighly flexible distal end of the shaft of the device to be moved to a fullrange angularpositions without rotating the device on its long axis, thus enabling thedevice to besteered within the cavity of interest. The device includes an outer casing anda controlcase, a spring mount on the outer casing or the control case and a manuallymovablecontrol disc for adjusting the angular position of an end of the shaft. Aspring memberextends between the control disc and the mount member. A control cable isattachedto the steerable distal end of the shaft to the disc. When the control disc istilted, thecontrol cable pulls the steerable end of the shaft into different angularpositions.
