Compositions and methods are provided for conferring resistance to herbicides on bacteria, plants, plant cells, tissues, and seeds. Compositions include polynucleotides encoding polypeptides resistant to herbicides, vectors containing those polynucleotides, and host cells containing the vectors. The nucleotide sequences of the present invention can be used in DNA constructs or expression cassettes for transformation and expression in organisms including microorganisms and plants. Compositions also include transformed bacteria, plants, plant cells, tissues, and seeds. In particular, an isolated polynucleotide encoding an HPPD inhibitor resistant polypeptide is provided.
