A planting system includes a pot having a bottom floor with at least one drainage opening, a spray ring implanted in the planting medium in an upper portion of the pot and configured to inject pressurized water downwardly into the planting medium, and a grid disposed below the planting medium. The grid includes a plate spaced above the bottom floor of the pot. The plate includes apertures configured to allow roots to pass through the plate. Slats formed on the underside of the plate define a plurality of compartments configured to prevent the roots from spiraling.
