Disclosed herein are methods for delivering a tumescent anesthetic fluid to an area surrounding a target vein by inserting a needle into a location proximate to the target vein. The needle includes a proximal and a distal end, a pointed needle tip an elongated shaft body with a hollow center which extends throughout its length. The shaft body is of a length sufficient to penetrate epidermal, dermal and subdermal layers of a patients lower extremity, and multiple openings are positioned along the length of the shaft body for administering the anesthetic through into said the surrounding area. The administration of tumescent anesthesia allows fewer needle pricks while simultaneously providing greater distribution of the anesthetic to the target area of the patient.
