Devices and methods for the treatment or restoration of reflux heart valves such as mitral valves are disclosed. An exemplary annuloplasty device may be placed in the coronary sinus to modify the mitral valve and reduce mitral valve regurgitation. An improved protective device may be placed between the annuloplasty device and the underlying coronary artery to inhibit compression of the underlying coronary artery by the annuloplasty device in the coronary sinus. In addition, the protective device can inhibit the compression of the coronary artery from the inside of the heart, for example, from an artificial mitral valve that exerts outward pressure radially toward the coronary artery.
