The invention relates to an ultrapure sucrose, i.e. a sucrose with a low level of nanoparticulate impurities (NPI) such as below 105 nanoparticles per gram of sucrose, as well as to a method for preparing ultrapure sucrose. The invention further relates to a method of preparing pharmaceutical or diagnostic compositions comprising the ultrapure sucrose, and to the use of such compositions in the diagnosis or therapy of a human or a non-human animal.
