A transillumination image of the pupil is illuminated by a reflected light beam from the fundus, exhibiting an edge of the anterior capsule and the edge of the intraocular lens and, for example, multiple concentric rings interference pattern of a diffractive multifocal IOL. If an intraocular eye is detected, a system control unit changes various settings prior to carrying out measurement operations.
