A syringe assembly 100 is provided having a passive disabling system to prevent re-use. According to an embodiment, the syringe assembly includes a barrel 420, a plunger rod 440 and a stopper 460, wherein the plunger rod further includes a flexible protrusion 444 that locks the plunger rod in the barrel. The embodiment further includes a breakable portion 443 provided on the plunger rod and broken when an attempt is made to reuse it. The embodiment includes a plunger rod and a stopper attachment 446 that prevents disassembly of the syringe assembly prior to use.
