The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising metformin as an active ingredient, its use for preventing or treating peritoneal fibrosis, and a peritoneal dialysis fluid containing metformin. The metformin of the present invention inhibits the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of the peritoneum through antioxidative action, thereby effectively suppressing fibrosis of the peritoneum, and thus has an excellent effect of preventing or treating peritoneal fibrosis.본 발명은 메트포르민(Metformin)을 유효성분으로 포함하는 약학적 조성물 및 이의 복막 섬유화 예방 또는 치료용도 및 메트포르민을 포함하는 복막 투석액에 관한 것이다. 본 발명의 메트포르민은 항산화 작용을 통해 복막의 EMT(epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition)를 억제함으로써, 복막의 섬유화를 효과적으로 억제할 수 있으므로 복막 섬유화를 예방 또는 치료하는 효과가 우수하다.
