An endoscope image pickup system of the present invention comprises light source means (2) for generating light in a visible light wavelength region including excitation light, an excitation light transmission filter (11a) for transmitting the excitation light, an endoscope (3) for emitting light from the light source means (2) to obtain an optical subject image using light reflected by a subject, an endoscopic filter (28) for transmitting only a part of the excitation light and transmitting fluorescence, image pickup means (4) for picking up an image of the subject, and image processing means (5) for processing an image pickup signal from the image pickup means (4), and further comprises composite image generating means (53) for generating a composite image from a fluorescent image by the fluorescence and an excitation light image by the excitation light, and color tone correcting means (52) for correcting color tone upon generation of the composite image.
