A backpack for carrying an animal consists of an L-shaped rigid dorsal part (2), in the seat base of which a central hole-type cutout (5) is located, said seat base projecting at a right angle from the dorsal part. A pouch-type front part (1) having two hole-type cutouts (6, 6a) and a bib (4) is attached to the outer edges of the seat base (3). The dorsal part (2) and the pouch-type front part (1) are joined to one another by zippers. The bib (4) is connected, by means of clip-on closure pieces (11, 11a), to the clip-on closure pieces (13, 13a) on the fastening straps (9, 9a) that are guided through a plurality of loops (7, 7a) along the long lateral portions of the rigid dorsal part (2) and to the clip-on closure pieces (12, 12a) on the pouch-type front part (1). Trapezoidal outer pockets (14, 14a) are attached on both sides of the lower end of the rigid dorsal part (2), and a deflection buckle (16, 16a) for guiding the hook-and-loop fastener (17, 17a) therethrough is located at the end of each of said outer pockets (14, 14a).
